Trafford Waters plans submitted
Peel Land & Property has submitted a planning application to Trafford Council for Trafford Waters, a proposed mixed-use development on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. The application, which is the culmination of several years of research and planning, follows a public exhibition at which the proposal was welcomed by local residents.
Trafford Waters will be a sustainable urban neighbourhood, including a vibrant residential community and diverse business location. In total, the proposal represents a £1 billion investment in the area, and is expected to provide up to 5,000 jobs and the prospect of millions of pounds of new tax revenues.
James Whittaker, Development Director at Peel Land & Property, said:
“We were very pleased by the public response to our plans for Trafford Waters. We believe they offer an excellent opportunity for a disused site to become a home for a new community. Our proposal is for a high-density development in an attractive, green setting, building on the latest thinking in planning and architecture to create a place to live, work and play that will be unlike any other in Greater Manchester.”
Trafford Waters will combine up to 3,000 apartments with approximately 80,000m2 of high-specification offices, and 6,700m2 of small-scale retail, leisure and community uses. Green corridors and waterways throughout the site, which is next to the intu Trafford Centre and Trafford Leisure Village, will help sustain vitality and vibrancy and attract residents, businesses and visitors. The development will have excellent public transport links, and will be easily accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. A number of road improvements already underway in the local area will ensure the site has good connections to the motorway network and wider region.
The application will be considered by Trafford Council’s Planning Development Control Committee, and is expected to be determined later this year.
